DIRECTORATE GENERAL OF INQUIRIES & CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS
 

Introduction

 

This Directorate is responsible for combating and investigating crimes. It processes the inquiry and investigation procedures and collect evidence by using sophisticated scientific methods.

The Directorate General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigations performs its duties through a number of departments and sections. The most important of these are the following:

  • Directorate of Crime Control

  • Directorate of Narcotics Control

  • Directorate of Criminal (Forensic) Laboratory

  • Directorate of Criminal Evidence

  • Directorate of Quality Control

  • Information and Crime Analysis Section

  • Licenses Section

  • The Arab & International Police Liaison Directorate (INTERPOL)

Directorate of Crime Control

 

The Crime Control Directorate is responsible for the development of experience and skills in combating dangerous crimes in order to achieve better results in this field. It channels information between the sections of the Directorate and other ROP formations such as the Directorate General of Customs on captured narcotics and associated crimes. It also delivers information and results of inquiries to the Criminal Information and Analysis Section to use it in its criminal analysis report.

Directorate of Narcotics Control

 

The Narcotics Control Directorate implements national strategies on combating crimes associated with narcotics and other psychotropic drugs. It bars their entry into the country and arrest perpetrators of these crimes in co-operation of the authorities concerned both inside the Sultanate and abroad.

Directorate of Quality Control

 

The Directorate of Quality Control implements the plans and programmes of performance development by setting professional practices standards and the general supervision over the Employees Evaluation Programme in the field of inquiries and criminal investigations

Directorate of Criminal Evidence

 

The Criminal Evidence Directorate work together with the Forensic Laboratory to set up the service and scientific response criteria and the continuous modernization and upgrading efforts in the field of science and technology which reflect the highest and best international standards of practices.

Licenses Section

 

The Licensing Section, under the Directorate of Criminal Inquiries and Investigation, issues fire arms and ammunitions licenses under the Fire Arms and Ammunition Law and its implementing regulations. It also issues licenses for key copying shops, colour photocopying shops and similar licenses. For details regarding issuance of licences click here .

Information and Crime Analysis Section

 

The Information and Criminal Analysis section organizes the criminal records and criminal analysis statistics on the different criminal methods and co-ordinates these records. It suggests the appropriate ways and procedures to combat the different patterns and types of crimes in the society.

The International & Arab Police Liaison Directorate

 

The Arab and International Police Liaison Department (Interpol) of the Directorate General of Criminal Inquiries and Investigations co-ordinates and exchanges information in the field of crime combating and control with some Arab Liaison Departments, the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab ministries of Interior and with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol). It also circulates notes on wanted suspects and extradition of criminals.
