Directorate General of Civil Status
The Directorate General of Civil Status is a division of the Royal Oman Police which was formed by Royal Decree No. 66/99. The Civil Status Law was also enshrined under Article 2 of the same Decree.
In 2001, details of the functions, administrative structure and programme of action of the D.G. of Civil Status were all laid out. In 2002, an agreement to implement the Civil Status Project was signed with an international company. Under the terms of the contract, the company was commissioned to set up an integrated computer system to register the particulars of citizens and residents in the Sultanate.
Twelve Civil Status Directorates were established throughout the Sultanate's governorates and regions to provide services with absolute confidentiality and accuracy.
