280 Illegals Arrested
(2/7/2012)The joint inspection team at the Ministry of Manpower said that 280 expatriate workers were caught violating various provisions of the Labour Law from June 23 to 29. This includes 218 commercial workers, 17 farm workers and 45 housemaids. The Governorate of Muscat recorded the highest number of workers violating the law with 196 workers. The departments concerned at the ministry will take necessary action against the offending workers.
Meanwhile, the ministry's statistics showed that 182 expatriate workers were deported for violating the Labour Law and ministerial resolutions executing the law. Meanwhile, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) in co-operation with other military and security departments arrested 194 intruders of different nationalities from a number of wilayats for entering the country illegally. ROP has deported 103 intruders after taking necessary legal actions in co-ordination with embassies of their countries to deport them.
The ROP urges people to extend co-operation with the authorities in fighting this phenomenon by reporting of such cases to the police, not to give shelter or hire unsponsored labour or facilitate their entry into the Sultanate. These actions encourage such phenomenon in the society as such actions will be legally held accountable.
