  306 CASES OF TRAFFIC VIOLATION - ROP recorded 123 accidents from April 17 to 23

Statistics issued by the Directorate Ceneral for Traffic said that 306 cases of jumping the traffic signal were reported in the first quarter of this year compared to 106 cases in the same period last year. The punishment for the offince includes 48 hours' imprisonment and impounding of the vehicle till the date of the trial is set.
According to weekly statistics from the ROP, 123 road accidents took place from April 17-23, resulting in ten deaths and 179 people sustaining injuries. Fifty of these accidents were due to collisions with other vehicles, 34 due to collisions with fixed objects, 18 were due to the driver losing control over the vehicle, and 21 were runovers.
The most serious road accident took place in Azaiba, which resulted in the death of one person and injuries to seven people. The driver executed a lane change without following the rules and collided with other vehicles. The ROP has urged people to follow the traffic rules and avoid talking on mobile phones while driving.
