ROP, ITA sign to implement new electronic visa system

The Royal Oman Police (ROP) yesterday signed an agreement with the Information Technology Authority (ITA) to implement the new electronic visa (e-visa) system.

The agreement was signed on behalf of ITA by Eng. Ali bin Mas’oud Al Sunaidi, Commerce and Industry Minister and ITA Board Chairman, while it was signed on behalf of ROP by Lt. Gen Hassan bin Mohsen Al Shraiqi, Inspector General of Police and Customs, and the executing company by the General Manager of the Australian SITA Corporation.

The project aims at facilitating hassle-free travel for businessmen, visitors and tourists by setting up an advanced system that ensures simplification of the current procedures for the issuance of visas and residence permits for foreigners. The system will also facilitate the entry and exit procedures through the legal check points and ensure easy sharing of information with the respective departments.

Al Sunaidi said that the agreement comes in line with the government’s initiative towards e-government and will open wider horizons for the business and tourism sectors in the Sultanate.
He hailed the efforts made by ROP to provide electronic services. Lt.Gen Al Shraiqi also appreciated the support provided by ITA and thanked all those who had contributed in the success of this project.

The ROP always seeks to provide citizens, residents and visitors with all facilities, he affirmed.

The signing ceremony was attended by Maj. Gen Salim bin Mussalam Qattan, Assistant Inspector General of Police and Customs; Salim bin Sultan Al Habsi, Undersecretary of Finance Ministry; Dr Salim bin Sultan Al Ruzaiqi, ITA chief executive officer; and a number of senior officers at ROP and the Sultan’s Armed Formed and other security apparatuses along with officials from ITA.
