Speeding cause of three deadly collisions
(6/4/2010)

Three people were killed and many others were injured in road accidents in different parts of the Sultanate yesterday. The three accidents were caused by speeding and lack of concentration and adherence to traffic regulations. Royal Oman Police (ROP) civil defence teams, assisted by citizens, rushed the injured to nearby hospitals.
In the Wilayat of Bausher’s Al Ansab area, a car travelling from Al Hammam to Al Ansab suddenly swerved from its course and crashed into a vehicle coming from the opposite direction. The driver died on the spot and a passenger in the same car sustained minor injuries. The ROP attributed the accident to lack of concentration on the road and non-adherence to traffic regulations.
In the Wilayat of Seeb, a man was run down by a car as he was crossing the road near Al Mawaleh Market. A driver travelling from Al Sahwa Tower towards the Dakhiliyah region was not paying attention to the pedestrian who was too close to avoid. The impact killed the man on the spot and caused moderate damage to the vehicle. A similar accident — running down of a child — happened at a fuel filling station at Bar Hoze area in the Governorate of Al Buraimi.
The driver was reversing at the station when he sensed what seemed to be a ‘stumbling block’ under his rear right wheel. When he got down to have a look, he was surprised to see a small boy lying with blood seeping on the ground. He transported the boy to Al Buraimi Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.
